Firestone Colorado is a long haul from Colorado Springs. The trip was made easier when I met friend and fellow Five Star author Liesa Malik http://liesamalik.com/wp_lmalik/ at her home. She drove the rest of the trip, cutting my drive in half.
Neither of us knew what to expect. This was a new event for us, a trip into the unknown. We spotted the library at last, rising from an expanse of prairie. Friendly library staff and volunteers met us at the door. The facility is only 8 years old, and had a crisp, fresh feel. After we arranged our tables, Liesa and I wandered around meeting other authors, and chatting with friends from Rocky Mountain Mystery Writers of America.
A festive air pervaded the library. Many children and a few adults participated in a costume contest, dressing as favorite literary characters. Vendors provided snacks. A live band, the Prairie Scholars, filled the library with music. Samples of adult beverages were available.
Making so much noise, and eating among the stacks, seemed naughty, but no librarians shushed us. In fact, they were making as much noise as the rest of us.
The building was on the prairie, but had a beautiful view of the mountains. There were plenty of windows, and a patio, from which to enjoy the scenery.
I hope you enjoy the slideshow below (click on play or click on an image). And I also hope you visit your local library soon!
